Having created a Hub a little earlier today, which was aimed at stressing the importance of bathroom hygiene, it seemed a good idea to detail some of the bathroom storage options available. In order to minimise infections, maximise space, give a de-cluttered appearance, or what you will, bathroom storage can help complete a bathroom design.

These days there are many stylish options when it comes to bathroom storage. There are still traditional bathroom cabinets, although many of these have been modernised.

However, there are various storage options.

Before you hit the shops or the virtual High Street think about your wants, needs and aims, such as:-

  • What is your budget?
  • Is space a premium or limitless?
  • Do you want your storage to be permanently fixed or freestanding?
  • What is your colour scheme?
  • Is your bathroom light and airy or damp and musty?
  • Is longevity of your furniture important?
  • The size of your household and if it includes children, especially small ones.
  • Is style going to be the most important consideration or will it be practicality?

These and other considerations are important. For example, the air quality in your bathroom may be relevant to the materials used to make any bathroom storage that you want to purchase. There are many stylish rattan, bathroom, storage cupboards but these may not fare well in very damp conditions. Having said that, they are designed for using in bathrooms, which have a normal level of moisture.

Tall slender drawer units can be perfect for bathrooms but, if you have small children using your bathroom on a daily basis, they may not be accessible to them. This could be handy though. You may not want little fingers rummaging through your toiletries. You could also place the children’s items in the bottom drawers. However, if space allows, perhaps a wide but low bathroom storage unit could be the best option.

With just two of us in our household, we opted for a tall slender drawer unit for bathroom storage.

Our bathroom storage unit takes up the minimum amount of floor space. It is made of a light wood and has rattan drawers. The light wood can be stained to suit your taste. The drawers have a pale coloured, linen liner, which can be removed for washing. This prevents any spillages damaging the rattan. I cannot quite remember the price but I think it was around £30. There are five bathroom drawers in the unit, which works for us. Extras can be stored on the top if desired.

Finally.

If shopping around leaves you unable to purchase the bathroom storage that you need why not design and make your own? It does not have to be expensive or difficult. The great thing about making and designing your bathroom storage is that it will be just what you need.

Too true aleida. This is probably true of other tasks as well as finding the right bathroom storage.

I love your list of questions. The more questions that you can frame regarding bathroom storage, the clearer idea you have as to what you are looking for in your bathroom storage.

Good point Eileen. Those cane and rattan drawers let air flow through. Perhaps using the drawers for toiletries though would be a better idea

Gosh you write some great hubs. Just a word of warning with putting linen etc in bathroom cupboards. Beware of mould..... Many many years ago we had a large cupboard in our bathroom. So I stuffed everything I could in there out of the way. On the top shelf (which i didnt go to) I layed out my wedding dress wrapped in brown paper from memory. A couple of years later I thought I would take it down and bring back some memories. Oh boy. It was covered in mildew or mould dont know which. so goodbye to that. Just be careful. Mould is still a dangerous health risk these days and people can become very sick from this.

We have a very small bathroom and those rattan drawers look like just the thing to me. Will have to look out for them here in South Africa.

Thanks for some great ideas!

Love and peace
