Part-one Go for it

Christmas may not quite be just around the corner but it soon will be. With so few gift shopping days left before Christmas we all need to get a move on. Sure there will be gifts available for sale up until the very last minute but the choice will diminish all the time.

Maybe buying gifts for your man is a doddle but more likely it is just one big headache. A mixture of cash and inspiration will be needed and here are some ideas.

Many men open their Christmas gifts with a feeling of dread. The usual ill fitting socks, underwear and gloves must be so disappointing. Why not put the amount of thought into buying his gift, that you would hope he put into buying yours?

The money you have available for gift purchases obviously makes a difference but it is possible to buy your guy the perfect gift, on a budget.

FUN STUFF

We all know that most men are big kids at heart. Some are big kids full stop. How about buying him a toy. It could be something designed as a toy for grown-ups or a kids toy you know he has always wanted. I am not talking about a sex toy but hey it is up to you. Whatever floats your boat as long as it is legal.

Fun gifts could be a light up dazzle yoyo, a radio controlled spider, a rubber duck radio or a robotic dog. You could even make up a men's gift basket of fun gifts throwing into the mix bags of favourite childhood sweets or confectionery such as sherbet dips, cherry lips, swizzlers and the like.

GADGETS

Does he own a Kindle? If he does you could purchase a great selection of kindle reading matter for next to nothing. If he does not own a kindle why not buy him one? The smaller kindle is cheaper and more lightweight. It could be perfect for taking to work and the like.

A new cell phone may not be necessary or within your budget but perhaps some accessories will be. A case or earpiece for example could be ideal.

SUBS

The annual subscription for magazines works out cheaper if the whole year is paid for in one payment. If your man loves his expensive, in your opinion, monthly motorbike or photography magazine for example, why not pay in advance for next year's editions?

MUSICAL HOBBIES

Perhaps he has always had a yen to learn to play keyboards or a guitar. Whilst your funds may not stretch to buying the musical instrument they may stretch to paying for lessons on how to play, or sheet music and the like.

TECHNO GIFTS

Netbooks have come down in price considerably. For less that £200 in the UK you can but a good make netbook. Maybe he has a laptop that needs a little more memory adding to it? Perhaps his PC could do with a Windows upgrade to its operating system.

Androids, IPads, IPhones and more may all be within your price range. If not accessories for an existing piece of kit may be.

Who said men are hard to buy for? There is so much choice a part two will follow soon.

Thanks Pam and Homestead. Yes it is all about the thought you put into the gift. Never get into debt over christmas just be imaginative.

One year I bought him a glider ride. I took apart a flat one piece box, and then decorated it on the inside with the details of the ride which included 2 hours of instruction and then the ride. The box was so light when I put it back together he was really surprised.

Great gift ideas here, and if we love them we can treat them.

Another year I bought him some pinion wood because he like to burn fires outside. I hid the wood under behind the gazebo and then sent him on a hunt for it with about ten clues leading to the next clue, leading to the next. That was fun too. A small bundle of pinion wood did not cost much, but he knew I put alot of thought into the treasure hunt.

Shame no-one seems to want to treat their guy. If money is tight that's fair enough but if ya love him....

Some good ideas. Since I have a dog, getting a gift for my pet would go a long way for me. And dogs are easy to buy for.

These days people tend to treat themselves first. My Christmas gift will be a handmade one. Maybe scarf or perhaps a sweater if he's lucky!

Well that could be one option lol However if you have a little cash why not treat the one you love. Thanksgiving is a mystery to me as I am a UK resident :) Wer have survived a relationship for almost 40 years through very lean years and slightly better off years. We have always given each other some form of present. I will be doing a hub for pressies on the cheap soon. Thanks for stopping by

No gift at all, just a big dose of reality and a belief that being a consumer is no longer the thing that binds relationships together. Forget Christmas and make it more like Thanksgiving. Celebrate family and reward yourselves for surviving this long and change your relationship forever by erasing the need for money and materialism.
