Donations to Charity-Don't put all of your eggs in one basket
69The Haitian earthquake of 2010 has touched so many people.
With reports reaching the public of survivors still being pulled alive from the rubble ten days later, there is obviously much to do. By this stage of a disaster, efforts would normally be concentrating on giving relief to the survivors. However, in Haiti search and rescue teams are still very necessary.
This means that any form of clear up, will take more time. If this results in people who have clung on to live for long, in the ruins of buildings, being rescued alive, then they should take as long as they feel necessary.
I have donated to the Haiti appeal and written a few articles on the web for the proceeds to be donated also. Believe it or not though this article is not about Haiti but a gentle reminder about other charities.
Firstly let me say that, Haiti needs every bit of help that you can offer.
Whether it is money, your services or goods please give as generously as you can. They will need help for many months or years to come and so the help needs to be ongoing.
However, when such a disaster strikes, it is all too easy to forget about other charities.
Animal charities are usually the first to be forgotten. When people are suffering, most people ignore animal suffering. Whether or not you think that this is right, it happens. Spare a thought for some animal welfare charities, which were already struggling to survive. My local RSPCA is hanging on by the skin of its teeth and still needs funds.
Children's charities, such as the NSPCC, national society for the prevention of cruelty to children, in the UK always need more money.
Local hospitals and care homes often can provide that little bit extra for patients and residents by way of the charitable donations which they receive.
The list is endless.
This Hub is brief because the message is simple.
Give, Give and Give.
You may say that, you are already poor or in dire financial straits, and it is not for me to disagree. Hubby and I often struggle to keep our heads above the financial water line. However, just consider a couple of things.
- By pass that night out at the restaurant and give the money saved to charity.
- Cut your cigarette consumption in half and do the same again. This one will benefit your health into the bargain.
- Walk to work for a week.
- Give the beauty saloon a miss for once.
- Cut out a few luxuries.
All of the above will give you plenty to donate to your favourite charity.
Yes we all need the odd treat but, when you consider the people of Haiti, right now, a night out at the cinema seems rather frivolous, doesn't it?
So, think about the ways that you can ensure you can afford to be charitable, and remember to share your generosity with as many charities as possible.

oh I loved this hub so much.
I rarely give money maybe I just selfishly get so much more satisfaction seeing, doing, being, creating, crying with those in need.
How sad our world is though, look like your point says, how many could use help, I want to help everyone I swear.
I have started many charities and volunteer for others primarily elderly, drug addicts, inner-city kids, child prostitution, runaways and needle exchange as preventative efforts against our known IV addicts disease, which includes me before I got clean.
I have 4 accounts here which spreads me too thin but one is called dear addict but it is for hubbers to post hubs on all things surrounding addictions - all of them. Let's hope the slowly growing messages reach those it needs to.
Well this is sooooooooo voted up and bookmarked, I'll sure to be back
Thank you for making a difference
I have my own website
www.lyricsingray.com
full forum/blogging site but I am thinking of starting a blogging site for charities only-let them get the money for their cause
i just think it feels right
any thoughts?
Thanks again
The hub is very much relevant and reminding of the gruesome holocost.
You're so right about other charities being overlooked at times like Haiti, Katrina and tsunami disasters, and 9/11. On the flip side, charities like Red Cross can barely recover from one such major disaster before the next hits in the last decade it seems.
Very thought provoking, but don't forget you can give to charities by giving your time as well. a very rewarding thing to do. Thanks for sharing
This is a wonderful hub! You bring up and excellent point about making sure others in need are'nt over-looked due to the magnitude of the devastation in Haiti. You are a great person. God bless you Ethel!
Very thoughtful, ethel, and it showed your kind heart. Thank you for your hub.
Excellent message Ethel. Thanks for wonderful remind!
I read that several animal welfare groups are helping the animals in Haiti. I wondered if anyone had remembered them. Wonderful hub!
Hi Ethel,
A good hub and a reminder to every one - what a tragedy is and what kind of help is required for every one and the animal too. Thanks.
