Farrah Fawcett: Farrah's Story British Television

Farrah Fawcett was that of so beautiful woman that us girls longed to look like, all those years ago. Mainly known in the UK for her role as one of Charlie's Angels, she was once seen never forgotten. With that wide smile, pearly white teeth, ultra slim figure, flowing hair and the face of an angel.

Of course the guys loved her for different reasons. Most men fancied her from the tip of her toe to the top of her head. Despite her warm image she still oozed sex appeal.

More recently her name has become prominent due to her battle with anal and liver cancer. Sadly after a long struggle the cancer finally won and Farrah passed away on 25th June 2009, aged 62. As that fateful day also saw the death of Michael Jackson Farrah's demise was overshadowed and received minimal publicity in the UK.

Last night, 17th July 2009, British TV aired Farrah's Story which showed Farrah's struggle to survive her illness.

Farrah's Story was a moving piece of work. It took the form of a type of diary. From the time when Farrah was diagnosed has having cancer the viewer follows her journey.

It is worth remembering that cancer is still a terrible illness and some types are less easily treat than others. It also seems that some are more ignored than others. All Cancer needs research, and money spending on it, in order to eradicate it from our lives. As with all things this will be possible but it will take time and money.

Farrah tried many forms of treatment in an attempt to win through. Eventually she was travelling between America and Germany where she was having radical stem cell treatment and more. Her pain was terrible to see at times.

As I watched I found it so inspiring that such a petite woman could show such a great inner strength. Many of the treatments were painful but she never gave up.

Her long time partner Ryan O'Neal was by her side through it all. They had married a few years ago when Farrah's cancer was diagnosed and their strength of feeling for each other was plain to see.

Throughout it all she remained a beautiful person, on the inside and well as the outside. I guess it was her personality that came through. Once Farrah was animated her beauty just glowed. Farrah came across as a sweet person who loved life. Her beloved father, so sad with her illness, was as Jaclyn Smith said, a real doll.

Her two ex Charlie's Angels had also known cancer, or so it would seem. All three had turned into beautiful mature women. Sure they may have had the odd help at staying beautiful but who can blame them.

Toward the end Farrah finally lost her hair. She had retained a little hair at the front of her head. This showed under the front of her beanie hat and so at first glance it was not obvious that she was going bald. However when the hat came off she still was so beautiful.

Alana Hamilton seemed to film much of this programme and Ryan O'Neal was at Farrah's side, as much as possible. All in all it was a touching documentary which left me in awe of the strength of this woman.

Finally we saw Farrah reading mail from fellow sufferers and feeling their pain.

For me the worst aspect of Farrah's Story was the shameful behaviour of the press and paparazzi through much of Farrah's darkest days. With her medical confidentiality breached she was open season. She did win her battle against them though and finally achieved some peace.

Whether or not you were a fan of Farrah Fawcett I recommend that you watch Farrah's Story, if you are given the chance. It had sadness, hope, despair, love, friendship and more. As a final piece of work from Farrah it was truly exceptional.

Farrah referred to herself at one point as a "a blonde nothingness" which belies the greatness this woman showed in her battle against cancer.
