Freelance writing on the Internet: Make money at Allvoices.com? Possibilty poor

September 2011, update.

This hub was written and created in good faith. However like so many Internet bubbles the dream burst. The site was sold and various restrictions such as timescales, revenue factors and more were applied.

In the end many people did not get paid.

That did not happen personally to me. However, I have now deleted my account. With no activity on the site by myself the chance of ever being paid any money was non-existent. The timescale would prevent me reaching the 100 dollar payout threshold.

Unlike sites such as Hubpages "passive income" is unlikely. In fact it is probably impossible.

If you want to take a gamble on Allvoices go for it. However remember it is a gamble. Sucking up is the norm if you want to earn decent money. In fact it is a priority. Check my more recent hub which outlines some of the pitfalls.

Most online freelance writers start small. Once they are hooked on Internet writing they tend to diversify. Some writers will soon outgrow the first writing websites that they joined. This may mean that they move on to pastures new. Other writers will simply keep adding to their portfolio of writing websites.

Working part time means that I have some time for writing online but never enough.

You often find that, after you have joined a website, it does not live up to your expectations. Having invested time and energy in the site it can be disappointing. With experience we Internet writers tend to be cautious about new ventures.

My current favourite writing sites are Hubpages and Helium.

I now have a new venture though which looks promising. Allvoices.com is a news reporting site which appears to be very user friendly and potentially profitable. Whether it lives up to expectations remains to be seen.

Here is a little of what I have discovered about Allvoices, so far, starting with the basics.

Allvoices.com is a global, community of writers reporting news from around the world. I think that the news from any country is classed as suitable.

New writers are called STRINGERS. If you write well and regularly you will progress to a REPORTER and then an ANCHOR.

From March to December 2010 Allvoices.com are running an incentive scheme.

This scheme will pay writers per 1,000 reads ate varying levels. The rate of pay depends upon your participation on the site as a whole and the amount of visitors who read you.

In a nutshell the incentive program is based on:

• Your Score at the end of Month
• You get paid $ per 1000 page views

Payment is also based upon monthly activity

• A score of 50 or above and under 65 earns you $1.50 per thousand views
• A score of 65 or above and under 90 earns you $2.50 per thousand views
• A score of 90 or above earns you $3.00 per thousand views.

This may sound complicated but it is not.

Your account will have a tab that shows your Reporter Metrics which is constantly updated. This will show the current state of play regarding your score and potential earnings.

I have been a member for 7 days now and my projected earnings are already 13 dollars. I am already an ANCHOR. You have to bear in mind though that if your score drops, so will your earnings. This means that regularly site activity is necessary to earn money.

The downsides.

• The site is new to me and I have been unable to ascertain how legitimate it is.
• You are not paid until you reach 100 dollars which is always a worry. Inactivity could thus lead to no earnings.
• What happens at the end of the incentives program in December?

The upsides.

• The site is very user friendly.
• It is quick and easy to post your report.
• The reports do not have to be a minimum length.
• Adding images is also quick and easy.
• You can add links to your hubs or other work.

Warnings.

• You will need to fill in an American tax form. Details are on the site under the incentive programme.
• Be careful about any copyright issues with your news or images.
• You need to abide by the rules.
• Flag and rate regularly to increase your score.

Overall.

It is early days for me but currently I love this new venture. It is a great place for posting local news or odd information.

Of course the final analysis will be if Allvoices come up with the goods. If it does not its reputation will soon be sullied on the Internet.

This is why I feel that it is a worthy venture. As yet I have been unable to find any bad press about the site. Having been an increasingly popular site since its creation two years ago its future looks promising. Only time will tell.

UPDATES

It is the 31st July 2010 and I have been an active member now for 23 days. I have 49 dollars in the kitty and it keeps on rising. I have written 48 articles but they are only short. Each have only taken brief research and time. Of course I will have to remain active to reach that magic 100 dollar threshold. I will update soon.
