I'm a Celebrity Get Me out of Here Fun

I'm a Celebrity Get Me out of Here returned to UK TV screens on November 13, 2011. This wacky reality show was never on my viewing list until a couple of years ago when somehow or other I watched part of one episode. Laugh? I thought I would choke I laughed so much.
So what is IACGMOOH about.
The basic premise of the show is sending ten or so celebrities to live in the Australian jungle for a few weeks whilst their escapades are filmed and viewed by a TV audience back in the UK. The "celebrities" are often fading stars or almost famous people who presumably hope to revitalise their careers. In the past this has happened to the careers of previous contestants.
Sounds easy? Well of course it is not.
The public vote decides who has to perform "bush tucker" trials. These provide great entertainment and sustenance for the celebrities. The pressure is on for those competing in such trials to do well. If they do not the celebs may not eat or if they do it may not be very appetising food. Most celebs lose plenty of weight during the series.
Perhaps they join in order to lose weight.??
You have to wonder why some do volunteer to go into the jungle. It has to be the chance of winning the Jungle Crown and its fee or for the publicity if it is not to shed weight fast.
The bush tucker trials are often disgusting. A trial could involve, eating live bugs and worms, eating cooked animal parts such as testicles and a penis, swinging high above the jungle and more.
The jungle camps are base 24/7. There is no going off to a hotel each evening. The show is on air every night for each series. There are various trials and such thrown at those taking part. Some find they cannot hack it.
The first episode kicked off with the celebs dining in luxury before they were flown off to the Australian Jungle. The shows hosts Ant and Dec revel in the celebs pain. No sooner had IACGMOOH 2011 kicked off than some of the contestants were bottling it. Parachuting from a helicopter terrified some.
You have to wonder if they have never watched the show before. If that is the case why volunteer? They must be desperate for an audience.
This year's big name celebrity is Stephanie Powers. She knew few, if any, of her fellow contestants. The rest were comedian Freddie Starr, Lorraine Chase, Antony Cotton, Mark Wright, Willie Carson, Jessica Jane-Clement, Crissy Rock, Fatima Whitbred and Dougie Poynter. A fair few oldies then.
The first show ended with Freddie Starr and Mark Wright chosen for tonight's bush tucker trail. It is one called the greasy spoon and I do not envy them. They will be expected to eat and drink an obnoxious collection of critters and liquids.
Worth watching?
I am not a lover of such reality shows and have only watched the last couple of series but I am hooked. The show can be so funny. Watching celebrities struggle to survive is strangely amusing and satisfying. As some celebrities let down their shutters we glimpse the real them.
The bush tucker trials tend to be hilarious, unless you are taking part, of course. A debate at work regarding the first episode showed we were all in agreement. It was such funny entertainment.
Of course it does depend each year who is taking part,
Gradually the number of celebs is reduced by the public vote. The ten will be whittled down until the King or Queen of the Jungle 2011 is left alone. The journey to get there will be character building for those taking part and hopefully hilarous for the audience at home.
Should any celebrity at any time feel that he or she has enough they can scream out I'M A CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE. That is what the viewers wait to see. Woe betide any celeb who displeases the audience. They will feel their wrath. When Gillian McKeith p*ssed the audience off they responded. She was voted for each trial, over and over, and over again.
Chin up clebs, you have been warned.

Celebrities in the jungle is always a good time! Voted up.
Hi ethel, i have never see this show before, maybe we just don't get it where i live, but sounds like it would be fun to watch !
This is the first time I know about a show like this, fun and creative, but those worms and bugs are totally disgusting. I am wondering if any of those celebrities who was out of fashion has benifited from the show?
We get a lot of the UK shows here in Canada. I will keep my eyes open for this one. Looks like it would be worth a few laughs.
Great hub. I didn't know you were chosen for the next series. lol
My first thought when reading this, ethel, was that these quasi-celebrities must need publicity very badly to go through these humiliating episodes. Ah, well, to each his or her own.
Yes, Ethel, poor Freddie - all because of a bushtucker trial. I've just seen the photo of him being brought out of the jungle on the wheelchair....he even looks funny on that! I can't help myself, he looks funny even when he's not trying. Aw, I hope he's ok.
I can't imagine wanting to sign on, celebrity or not...Unless I suppose I needed the PR?! I would be whining the first day ;-)
Thanks for sharing Ethel, what will they think of next!?
Ethel, I might watch it this year just for Freddie Starr who I used to love when I was much younger. Remember his 'Freddie Starr ate my hamster' headline in the Sun newspaper, very funny!
I'm just imagining poor Stephanie Powers, who is usually so lovely when she gets interviewed; she doesn't have 'Max' from Hart to Hart to look after her now though.
